Andrew Booth
Andrew Booth is Reader In Evidence Based Information Practice and Director of Information at the School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield. He has worked in the field of health information for over 25 years. Having previously worked in a variety of health library and information units in the NHS, the Medical Research Council and the King´s Fund, he moved to the University of Sheffield where he managed the Information Resources (IR) Section from 1994-2008. During this period he also established himself as a researcher, lecturer and trainer in all aspects of evidence based practice. A systematic review methodologist since 1995, Andrew teaches on the Masters of Public Health and MSc in Health Informatics (with the Department of Information Studies). Andrew and colleagues hosted the first ever conference in Evidence Based Library and Information Practice in 2001 and since then he has been a leading international figure within this paradigm.
In 2008 Andrew’s increasing commitments saw him relinquish his management responsibilities in favour of a more academic role at the same time taking on an executive function as Director of Information. His increasingly high profile activities have seen him undertake major reviews of alcohol pricing for the Department of Health and the Home Office.
He is on the Editorial Boards of Systematic Reviews, Implementation Science, and Health Information & Libraries Journal. He was formerly on the Editorial Boards of Evidence Based Library & Information Practice, Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries and the International Journal of Multiple Research Approaches. He is a Co-Convenor of the Cochrane Collaboration's Qualitative and Implementation Methods Group.
